end the fed commercial

i was sitting in my car today waiting for my daughter to get out of school and musing over what might convince texas to secede and the thought occurred to me, what we need is a television commercial or a series of television commercials that explain to people what the Fed really is and how it props up a whole ponzi scheme of corruption.

i know the first limitation is money, and current end-the-fed campaigns out there probably are not raising enough money to buy national air time, but i wonder if we marketed our campaign not as an end-the-fed campaign, but a campaign to air a commercial about ending the fed, if we might not be able to bring in some sizable donations from enlightened rich people, if such a thing exists.

before that happens though, a good thirty second commercial needs to be created. we need some brainstorming and some collaboration, not to mention some graphics and video editing skills… what do you all think, is this feasible or just a pipe dream? and if it is feasible, is it worth pursuing?

I believe a 2012 Ron Paul presidential campaign will do more good. Being a mainstream (Democrat or Republic) presidential candidate means free media coverage. He can publicly discuss and debate the issue against politicians who are not well versed in the Federal Reserve System. If it became big enough of an issue, he could pay for commercials stating his opposition to it.

i doubt Ron Paul runs for president in 2012. in any case, marketing is about reinforcing an idea through different methods. people who see Ron Paul’s television commercials calling for an end to the fed will confuse them with Ron Paul’s efforts to get elected… what is needed is something to scare the hell out of the people and piss them off, that is not related in any way to any other agenda.

so, not a good idea?

I wouldn’t be so sure. Firstly, Paul seems to be warming up to the idea of a 2012 run. The 2008 run was actually very successful from an outreach point of view. He doesn’t have to actually win, just get out there with the message. If he’s up there talking about the Fed, it will hopefully force Romney/Palin/Huckabee/whoever to talk about it also.

I also don’t think the best course of action is to go for scare tactics and pissing people off. That might win some populism points but rarely leads to favorable or well-reasoned results. Present the facts, people will follow. And yeah, a lot of them will be pissed off just from the face value of it.

According to USA Today, “Paul told National Journal, however, that he’s thinking about making another run for president in 2012.”

Since he is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, I believe he can make his points more frequently.

“what is needed is something to scare the hell out of the people and piss them off, that is not related in any way to any other agenda.”

If you rely on fear-based advertising to raise support for opposition to the Federal Reserve System, the same fear-based advertising can be used to support it: bank runs, bank failures, a Greater Depression will ensure, etcetera.

A solid explanation of Austrian business cycle theory, like the one economist Robert P. “Bob” Murphy wrote yesterday, is more likely to convert people and keep them converted. A sound understanding of business cycles is not easily abandoned due to slogans, press releases, or negative advertising.

A 2012 Ron Paul presidential campaign can boost awareness of Austrian business cycle theory. He could give a very detailed explanation of it on his campaign website. He could summarize it in YouTube messages to supporters.

“Free” is hardly an accurate description of running in an election. Ever heard of deposits? It’s relatively cheap, perhaps. Not free.

actually i am thinking now of a radio commercial spoof of the twilight zone that opens like this:

Rod Serling sounding narrator: “Imagine an alternate reality, if you will, where the Federal Reserve was never created, …”

and then go on to quickly describe in 27 more seconds how the US wouldn’t have entered WW1 and lost how many ever young men, the depression wouldn’t have happened, WW2 and the Holocaust would like not have happened, no income tax, booming economy, etc. It would end something like this:

“But we will never really know what might have been, until we End the Fed.”

here is the full text of my commercial. please pick it apart and make suggestions:

do-do-do-da (Twilight Zone theme)

Imagine a world if you will, where the Federal Reserve system was never allowed to come into existence and the United States remained on a true gold standard.

In this world, the United States cannot finance military intervention in Europe. Woodrow Wilson cannot reneg on his campaign promise to keep us out of the Great War, and the lives of over one hundred thousand Americans are spared. The Great Depression never occurs because there is no Fed to drive excessive credit expansion.

In this world, twenty dollars is worth today what it was in 1913, one ounce of gold, allowing one to save for the future without being forced to invest in a crooked stock market. In this world, our army stays at home and 2008 is just another year of prosperity.

Its too late now to save the past. But its not too late to save the future. End the Fed.

this should be about one minute long.
