Fighting Lobbyists, a Possible Solution
For those aware of the Buchannanite philosophy of public choice, there is the theory that lobbyists will fight tooth-and-nail until the marginal cost outweighs the marginal benefit and that the reason why lobbyists are so hard to overcome is due to the asymmetrical benefits of lobbying, or thus that a lobby firm will pay millions to fight legislation that benefits them in millions, whereas, opposing parties would not pay that much to fight them because the benefit to them is so small. Thus, a single lobbying legislation may only cost the individual tax payer pennies, but the nation hundreds of thousands.
To fight these asymmetries why not raise the pennies via the population. Thus, if a lobby firm costs the average citizen 10 cents a month, why not donate 15 cents a month to beat the bill. I know there are many obstacles such as free riding and costs of collection etc, but if Ron Paul asked for 15 cents from each individual to rid the nation of some crappy lobby firm many would pay. This is somewhat naive, but it is merely a suggestion not a working model.
