Is there a way to find a list of legislation pertaining to specific fields? I never know where to look if I’m searching for the entire history of healthcare/medical legislation in Congress (including licensing for physicians and hospitals, the ability to write prescriptions, pharmacy requirements, patents, etc.). Is there any easier way than literally searching through every single piece of legislation ever enacted?
If there was it would defeat the purpose of legislation. How would a lawyer make a living?
Have you heard of Thomas? It’s a government archive of federal legislation. It currently has the full text of bills from 1989 to now. It also has bill summaries and status records of bills from 1973 to now. You still have to trudge through everything using search terms though.
Another option–for current legislation only–is to look at legislative/lobbying pages of certain organizations. For instance, I keep an eye on the legislation page of the Travis County District and County Attorney’s Association because they usually support a lot of terrible bills in Texas. See if you can find legislative pages for the AMA, etc. as they will be keeping an eye on current legislation that’s good or bad for their agenda.
