My nanna and me was talking the other day, I said a free market system would be splendid and she disagreed. She said that when she was 40, she couldn’t work; had rheumatoid or something of the matter. In any case, she asked me: if someone can’t work, what do they do? I told her charities and churches would likely help, but she asked, saying if nobody knew about the charity and she lived in an area without a church, what would become of the case?

Coming from someone who has a disability, I can tell you that the government has been of no help to me. I often have to take long periods of time off from college and holding down a job is pretty much impossible. Although I am still young and have yet to work full time, from speaking to other people with the same condition who are older than me it doesn’t seem to provide anyy help as you get older either. The only reason I, and other people with the same condition, get by is because of family and friends. Even though I live in a country where health care is supposedly free, they provide virtually no services for me. I have no idea how I would cope without insurance.
How does one end up being 40 years old with no savings, no insurance, no friends and family to help out, and no possibility to work from home in any way? (remember that a free market has much more working opportunities)
And all she’d need then would be a bus ticket to travel to a charity that’s willing to help out. (remember that in a free market there are far less people percentage wise that need charity)
The point is that in a free market it is far easier to gain wealth and to stay healthy, and if you have a problem there is also more and better care available. The illness could be avoided alltogether, or she could be in a position to easily afford treatment and be back on her feet in a short time.
