Does anybody know of decent German economists, if not completely Austrian in perspective, at least friendly to the ideas in that sense? Preferably someone who has been a minister or part of the German government in one way or another in the past? I’m from El Salvador, and an organization I work with is interested in bringing a German economist (don’t ask me why so specific) for a series of conferences. These will be conferences held for an important segment of the private sector and government in the country, so I want to find a good candidate to propose. I don’t want them to end up bringing another keynsian!!! Thanks for the help!!

If I had to pick one, I would suggest Thorsten Polleit. He is an honorary professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, so he actually is a practicing academic, plus he’s a member of the German Hayek society, an adjunct scholar of the Mises Institute and a proponent of the gold standard / opponent of central banking.
Jörg-Guido Hülsmann qualifies as being German, but he doesn’t teach in Germany right now, so maybe that could be an issue.

The lovely Niels van der Linden is from the Low Countries. He’s not German though it is a ‘North Germanic’ country in a general sense.
