High Energy Prices to Force Local/Region Economies and Destroy Supply Chains

I’d like to here some responses to this. I’ve had some quite scary discussions with some people along these lines.

To help spur some discussion, some talking points from the video:

  1. if we are close to cheap peak oil (note distinction with peak oil) we might soon see triple digit oil prices

  2. in triple digit oil price world, Chinese slave labor loses its competitive edge to US subsidized labor, current global supply chains fail

  3. carbon cap and trade schemes don’t work for the US unless you impose carbon tariffs on imports

  4. in triple digit oil, China will have zero incentive to maintain its trade relation with US because they won’t be able to sell to our Walmarts, expect them to pull out of buying our debt

  5. why not also impose a slave labor tariff on China?
