These Euro-Elections, although not quite over, are showing that the United Kingdom Independence Party will come second to the Conservatives, beating left-wing Labour and Liberal Democrats. Ok, they aren’t elections for our Parliament, they aren’t as important as they’er being made out to be, but this is one step ahead for us. Why?
Because UKIP is the only party in the entire country that does NOT believe that the free market caused this recession. They do not believe that it was the greedy bankers but rather the greedy politicians. In their attacks on the Government they even cite the basic tenets of ABCT. I’m celebrating this monumental occasion, not as the be-all and end-all, but because Britain is moving in a direction away from the belief that markets are bad, even in this time of recession it seems that Socialism is not advancing but retreating.
I hope that the same can be said for the United States, but it seems that for once, you guys are actually in a worse position than us.
UKIP is easily the best of the bunch, I agree. I believe they are the only party in the UK to support a rollback of gun laws going back into the 1980s. However they are mostly ‘unionists’ and are against the Welsh and Scottish independance movements, which is my biggest bone of contension with them.
Britain isn’t moving in the right direction, I don’t know if you’ve seen the figures for the amount of people on unemployment benefits, but what we’re seeing now is a generation of children growing up who’ve never seen either of their parents work. These elections aren’t saying anything other than that people in the UK aren’t too keen on joining the EU, which is fair enough, but when the elections for parliament come, unless the UKIP are willing to give out large amounts of unemployment benefits, they’re not going to get far.
Well, as that one Brit on FreedomWatch keeps saying, you guys are ten years ahead of us of where we are headed. Economics, historically speaking, always forces governments to give up control and grant more freedoms. But, historically speaking, as societies become more and more wealthy, the government gets bigger as well. It is just the nature of things.
Regardless, I am very hopeful for you over there that the rulers make good decisions and reduce government.
