Voting? Government jobs? Yelling?
Given my advocacy of non-voting and non-parcitipancy in politics or governments jobs, I was interested in some feedback from you guys.
I saw the topic a while back and watched the video.
I don’t make comments when there is nothing left to add or take away, as far as the general issue goes.
I agree with you.
I would never vote again, and I would never take any kind of government job.
This is going to be a long post but living the philosophy of liberty is much more difficult than I thought and I would like to know if anyone has been in a situation like this. If I were actually totally consistent, I would have been killed by now for not cooperating. Agreeing with you f#$%s here at LvMI would be the death of me. And I do agree.
I was having a conversation with my father who works for the street department. He was talking about how any job you’re in requires you to keep your end of the bargain (like that’s a bad thing) because you are quite replaceable. I mentioned, “Well what if they stop their end of the bargain i.e. stop paying you? You would end that relationship immediately as well- so I have no problem with that part.”
But then he started talking about how if you get fired the boss out of spite will pay the next guy MORE just to show you up. I said, “That’s a huge difference between a private enterprise and any government job. My boss would have incentive to pay the next guy LESS because where I work is totally based on profit and loss. Your boss (my dad’s) won’t necessarily experience a loss for paying the next guy more, he could get a psychological gain actually - in spiting you, because the money he uses is taken, not earned.”
He took major offence when I said I would never take a government job. He said, “Why not? They have all the best benefits, retirement and so on.”
I said, “Again, of course a government job can afford to pay whatever retirement and benefits they want, they almost never experience a ‘loss,’ only rarely when people rise up from too much taxation.” This of course ignited almost a dang fistfight over privatizing roads. He even agreed that roads were originally privately owned and then taken over by the government, but “eminent domain” is somehow legitimized because people vote. I didn’t even want to get into voting and taxation at that point, because it would have been a drag-out.
I’ve never seen the man so pissed in my life. It even got to where he was saying “I oughtta slap some sense into you.” Seriously! You could see in his eyes he meant it. I didn’t even get to total market anarchy yet. Not once in my life has my father ever been remotely violent to me. (I guess because I feared and obeyed?)
All I could say is,“Choosing simply to not cooperate with the government does not merit a beating I think.” - (I think I just found my sig! Ha!)
This is how much people fear liberty. I can’t imagine if he wasn’t family how ready he would have been to beat me up.
I got pushed around a lot in school as a kid and I vowed to myself I wouldn’t ever put up with bullies so that pretty much ends my relationship with that guy. I just didn’t expect this at all from me being honest. This makes me very sad to be living in the times we’re in.
I’m sure others have been in conversations such as this how do you guys handle it? Just stay away from these types is my only answer.
If I was actually completely honest with everyone I know, I think most people would come down to saying, “Yes, I will use violence against you so you cooperate.” I would have to dissasociate with society entirely if I actually knew of all those who would use force against a peaceful person such as myself. Trying to live the life of liberty is a true challenge, and a challenge I welcome.
