… I just was wondering. We are talking alot about economics, trade, contracts, rights and yes business and related activities. But how many of you are running their own kind of business and in what line?
I’m from an industrial engineering background, did do some freelance consulting. I am also involved in mining and commodities and yes, I do websites and SEO as well.

I used to own a bar until one year ago
Student.
I ran a “hobby business” around video games.
Trying to make one and running a wiki.
I build and install industrial flow meters.
You’re a tradesman, not a businessman.
A businessman owns capital and hires employees to run it.
I ran a little refurb operation during the property boom back in South Africa. Consortiums would buy up old housing and apartments and we’d sub-contract to fix the places up. It was a good gig until the markets tanked, naturally.
Working in insurance supervision (yes, government) because they offered to pay my actuarial course. Moving to private insurance next year. From them, the idea is to slowly make my way on top.
I pick up trash, and greet unruly customers.

I meant businessman in the broader sense. But yes, I hope to hire employees for doing some work in the future (Used to have this in the past for a while).
Capitalists own the capital, not necessarily the entrepreneur (of course both roles can be fulfilled by the same individual), and I would consider the latter to be more aptly described as a “businessman”. Employees are also not necessary to the concept of business, though they are certainly necessary in businesses above a certain size.
That said, I’m in business for myself teaching English to Russians and (in the warmer weather) giving backrubs in Union Square.
