Looking at this, it looks like food prices are on par with CPI and that energy prices are below CPI.

Such as the fact that they substitute the slowest increasing items for the faster increasing items?
Check out the CRB index - that is much more valuable for seeing price increases in food and energy.
That index only deals with the raw ingredients for foods - and doesn’t factor in the fact that some costs (such as labor involved in producing final food products) are not increasing - so it overstates actual bottom line increases at the supermarket - but it does show the increases clearly - unlike the CPI.
