Secondly, I love how you go right ahead and ignore the point I was making - that name-calling is against the rules of this forum. You also ignored my other questions, which only leads me to the conclusion that you have no respect for the rules of this forum. That means you apparently think it’s perfectly fine and dandy for people to hurl childish insults at each other in a forum that claims to be dedicated to intellectual discussion and debate. Am I missing anything here?

Third, I think it’s hilarious that you apparently think I’m the one that needs to “grow up”. Let me explain something to you: as far as I’m concerned, I’m very much grown up, thank you. Furthermore, I couldn’t care less whether you think I need to “grow up” or not. I consider my response to have been mature.

Fourth, I also think it’s hilarious that you apparently think I’m a hypocrite. According to you, it’s hypocritical to report people for violating the rules of a forum that they don’t own while preaching free speech. What does “free speech” mean to you? I mean, all most of the guys on this forum do is break things down to the most minor detail over and over and over again for the sole purpose of dick-measuring. Most things can be solved at the onset but look at all the papirius “discussions”. There’s no logic and they keep trying to find it anyway to assert superiority in whatever. So, I don’t really get the issue, from anyone? Business as usual in the pomposity industry. Or whatever, that’s how I see it.

This might surprise you, but it’s never my intention to get into a dick-measuring contest - neither online nor offline. My point in starting a private conversation with Aristophanes was to continue an exchange we started having in a forum thread that got locked. I just re-posted my last post to him in that thread, to start off with. But since it was a private conversation, and since I’ve been under the impression that private conversations aren’t bound to as many rules as public forum discussions (after all, they’re private), I wasn’t as restrained in my use of language as I try to be in the public forum. If that’s been a mistake on my part, so be it - I will gladly own up to it.

In the public forum, yes. As I mentioned above, I was under the impression that private conversations were different.

I referred to “JJ’s douchebaggery”. For the record, I do think JJ acts like a douchebag at times. I’m sure he’s already aware of that, even if I haven’t used those exact words to describe his behavior in public.

Like I said before, I’ve been under the impression that the rules for private conversations were looser than those for public forum posts around here. Certainly I’ve considered that to include profanity. Again, I could be wrong, and if so, I’ll gladly own up to it.

Even with airing it publicly, neither my behavior nor my opinions will change one iota as a result - because I won’t let them, and it’s entirely up to me. But at this point, I certainly don’t think I can trust you. After all, the point of airing a private conversation (which means there’s at least some level of confidence attached to it) is usually to try to humiliate the other person(s) involved. Let me make myself clear: I do not feel humiliated. Hence if this is an attempt to humiliate me - and I see no reason to believe otherwise - then it’s an utter failure. What I find amusing is that I’m a moderator for a forum that probably gets 50 times the daily traffic this forum gets, and posts are rarely, if ever, reported for language, despite posts/topics where language and tone get further than anything that came up in the Szasz thread (mostly due to people from different countries having trouble communicating). So it was kind of cute to have someone report me for language that was pretty minor compared to what I might see on a daily basis, and I was more than happy to return the favor.

I will say that I was very disappointed that the moderator locked and relegated the thread to the doldrums. As evidenced by the redux, the original topic had valuable content for a continued discussion, and there were plenty of ways that topic could’ve been modified so it could remain active.

I don’t think narcing is really the issue here - it’s the fact that on a forum about Thomas Szasz, Autolykos decided to mention that he reported some comments as offensive. He derailed the thread with his useless comment that could have easily been a pm; I will note, however, that he wasn’t the only one who forced the thread to be shut down. Now, within the context of the thread, I can’t ask the questions that I wanted to about Szasz’s positions and his performance in a debate I wanted to link to (although I do plan to start a new thread).

On another note, the link in Autolykos’ signature is over the top. John James is easily the most helpful member of this site, and I find his posts to edifying most of the time. Given his constant whining and “calling out” of other forum members, Autolykos is definitely a bully; a subtle one, but not as harmless as he appears (eg the locked forum).
