You would be free to help finance said child’s art or sport classes in a free society. Coercing others into paying is wrong.
It breaks my heart when I see starving beggars, but it doesn’t lead me to the conclusion that we should adopt soviet style farming.
Rather, it leads me to the conclusion that we should eliminate the government factors (drug prohibition, minimum wage, etc) which makes it easier to become a starving beggar in the first place.
No one on this earth has everything one really likes - “doesn’t it break your heart”?

All it takes for “sports class” in the undeveloped world is a round ball and an empty field.
The field doesn’t even have to be smooth.
This sports class has produced superstar millionaires.
Public schooling is barely able to teach children how to read and do math and not only in the US (believe me, I’ve taught math and chemistry recovery courses for a few years) in the most wasteful possible way, I find it absurd to entertain the idea of wasting even more resources on arts and sports.
But again I am not a Socialist.
Not really. If it breaks yours feel free to write them a check so they can do something they like.
I’m of the opinion kids should work part time, instead of sitting around the house all weekend and summer. It builds character and it adds relevant life skills.
I wish I could’ve forgone both classes in my high school years. Utter waste of time. I didn’t even like the sports they had on offer being into swimming myself; never been into team sports. BTW when the government provides education more kids miss out anyway… so to evoke this argument in its favour is doubly ironic.

I read logic puzzle books, nuclear physics, biochemistry and more in my own time during elementary school and created my own memorization technique. I rebelled in grade 7 and ended up skipping most of 3 grades. By grade 10 I was getting nearly perfect exam scores. I actually got further ahead of everyone else after all that time, the opposite of what everyone expected. I defeated 200 years of state “wisdom” on learning at the age of 13.
Coming from the communist idealism, it took me 3 days of reading the Free Market to convert me to Austro-libertarian. I immediately recognized the logic in the arguments and felt awakened. That is something that never happened in all of my years in school. I don’t see the school system as inefficient in the sense that it costs more than it’s worth. I see it as a strangulation of essential experience and atrophe of learning ability. I want it abolished even if it costs $0 and is replaced by nothing.
I also want to add that parents who claim to care about their kids futures but have nothing more educational than a TV in the house can’t be taken seriously for one second. Those parents want their kids to be great so that they can feel pride and status without having to do a thing to contribute to it.
Seems like a perfectly valid question to me. If its been “done to death” then how about supplying a link to the most appropriate thread? I don’t think its in the spirit of this forum to be so hostile.
Some would miss out, as opposed to the way it is now, where almost everyone misses out. Public schools were implemented so that everyone can have a decent education, especially minorities; unfortunately, this clearly isn’t what happened. Minorities are trapped in endless cycles of poverty and shitty education. The worst performing schools in the western world are inner-city American public schools. The literacy rate is quite disturbing.
Read the posters history. I understand the hostility. The poster has already been referred. This seems to happen quite a bit here. Someone will post a question, be given the proper references, then post another question that was easily answered if the references given were actually referenced.
