From the Department of Education:

So, the IRS’s system and at least the financial aid system of the DoE are now connected. The obvious question: It took them this long?

Also, wouldn’t this new system actually reduce the amount of grants given to students. After all, students will now not be able to lie on their financial application. So much for trying to make it easier for people to go to college.

I think this shows that central planning fails. By the time the government has finished integrating all of its systems, it will be bankrupt.

Seems like this should make life easier for honest applicants.

That would be a point in its favor, if it were the case. Sadly, I’m sure there is still an overabundance of qualifying applicants waiting to replace the new rejects.

I meant to say that the government wants more college students, so why would they make it harder for them to get in.

“The government” might want more college students, but the bureaucrats working in the IRS and Department of Education* probably care more about carving out their little empires and doing as little work as possible.

  • “DoE” typically refers to the Department of Energy.
