Is Anarcho-Capitalism the right word?

a few posts by Stephan Kinsella got me thinking.Is Anarcho-capitalism the right word? depending on how you define the words “libertarian” ,“anarchy” “anarcho-capitalism” and “capitalism” a Libertarian anarchy could involve capitalism but not necessarily.Is calling ourselves Anarcho-capitalists making it sound like we favour that system to the exclusion of all others? is it making it sound like it’s the only option?

from all of this I like Kinsella have chosen to call myself an “Anarcho-Libertarian” now because I believe you can infact be a Libertarian Anarchist and favour social organisations which differ from capitalism regardless of how you define that word (as long as they are non coercive).Technically speaking you could be a Libertarian anarchist and oppose morally money,division of labour,big business,bosses,contracts,industry etc and there would be no contradiction -well at least with libertarianism.You would find it hard to present a good argument for these positions.

So it appears to me that we make a mistake in equating Libertarian anarchy with Anarcho-capitalism which is a specific arrangement within the wider anarchy we favour .

Anyone agree? disagree? I’d like to hear your thoughts.

It seems to me that within pure capitalism too one can renounce the use of money, the division of labor and such things. Pure capitalism means just that: anarchy. It has nothing to do with stock exchanges and such things.

Just ‘anarchist’ would also do. But to differentiate one’s self from the crowds of violent communist hippies that use that term, anarcho-capitalism is good. I myself use ‘anarchist’ at almost all times.

I like “voluntaryist” and “market anarchist”. In everyday dialog with normal (statism is normal, hah!) people I use plain old “libertarian”. It’s less controversial than “anarchist”, I’ve found.

I think it is the right word because it immediate generates a discussion of ideas rather than serve as an empty buzz word the way some people use “Free Market”.

i suppose you can describe what you think Libertarians and libertarians are go go about explaing what yourselves are.

i guess anarcho-capitalism workd for kinsella and others. capitalsim from my understanding has property rights a component of it.

When I hear, Anarchy, I think of the time in the game Civilizations, when you change in between governments, a time of no production. haha!

They Anarchy symbol reminds me of a satanic symbol. Which is why I don’t use it.

To me, I prefer Rothbardian. because

  1. it sounds like a Starwars alien

  2. it gets people to ask ,“what is that?”, it dodges the popular misconceived notions of anarchy and capitalism.

You’re right, it does! Now I am trying to picture what they would look like…

I like the word “individualist.” You can use it to differentiate from all the collectivist terms people debate but are really pretty much the same: republican, democrat, moderate, socialist, communist, fascist, left-wing, right-wing, etc.

Just choose to speak American. Choose a word you like and consistently back it up. I dig Lefevre’s Autarchism.
