So, VA Governor Bob McDonnell just restored Confederate History Month yesterday in VA.

Is this offensive and/or racist? Some people have claimed that it honors the South’s pro-slavery past.

Edit: Is it racist according to some that Confederate History Month honors the South’s struggle to retain black slavery?
The truth can only offend those who deny it.
Offensivity is subjective.
I would say it’s not the role of government to be doing these things, but confederate history month is a tradition in Virginia. McDonnell didn’t just make this up, this is a tradition (or was until democrats got into office in 2002).
And anybody who says Confederate History Month is a bad thing (besides the fact that gov. shouldn’t do any of this crap) is denying that the Confederacy plays a large role in Virginia’s past.
It can’t be any more offensive then that pagan temple to the tyrant Lincoln that sits in Washington D.C.
Depends on who you ask.
If you support the U.S. government, you would be offended by month that celebrates individuals that rebelled against it with force.
If you do not support any government at all, you would be offended by the idea that some governor can go around declaring a theme for this or that month (where does he get off!!!).
If you support anything that offends American ‘statists’, then you will likely love this idea.
No more offensive than the Revolutionary War, which was also fought in defense of slavery by southern slave owners.

I don’t care if it’s offensive. I’m offended that Lincoln, after waging a war (with a conscripted army ) which targeted civilians and their property, is considered ‘the greatest president’…but why should me being offended keep anyone from honoring his sanctioning of hundreds of thousands of murders?
