I am curious. Do people exist that want a state because it is an innate instinct/belief, or is it simply learned through education/propaganda, or is it a mixture of both?
Through education/propaganda, I think I have almost no doubt about it. But I think that in an anarchist society some people would like to establish a government (a mafia which rules) in order to benefit themselves at the expense of the rest.
I don’t think we need to bring instinct to the table to explain statism. If we assume that an acting human will try to get the most for the least…
To the average person, they can keep everything they currently have that makes them happy at no cost right now by simply doing nothing. That is, supporting the status quo, or the fact that there currently exists a state.
On the other hand, an “experiment” in Anarchy involves an unknown cost (Oh no, what about the poor, who will make the law, won’t evil corporations rule with an iron fist?) for an uncertain benefit (what will the world look like with no state?)
What if the cost is high and the benefits are low? Maybe I’ll just stick with what I’ve got…
