Jeffrey Miron

Has the Ludwig von Mises Institute contacted libertarian economist Jeffrey Miron to learn if he is interest in being a member? During the housing bust, he repeatedly criticized government policies notably on CNN.com:

Public option: Treatment worse than the disease

Commentary: Cash for clunkers is a clunker

Commentary: US health costs out of control

Commentary: Legalize drugs to stop violence

Commentary: Bailing out homeowners is a mistake

Commentary: Libertarian ideas to stimulate economy

Commentary: Cut taxes, don’t raise spending

Commentary: Why this bailout is as bad as the last one

Commentary: Bankruptcy, not bailout, is the right answer

He is a minarchist, but I believe he is still a useful voice for promoting liberty.

Miron isn’t a big critic of the Fed. Even though he is for abolishing the Fed, he supported the renomination of Ben Bernanke

I was very disappointed with his book.

Miron is a fellow at the Cato Institute.

Are you saying that as a reccomendation?

No, he probably has more in common with my thinking than Austrian economists (e.g., he endorses consequentialism, for instance), but I find Austro-libertarian manifestos more to my liking; Miron generalizes his beliefs as representative of all libertarians (e.g., he presupposes minarchism). I just found it a very flat read (particularly the dictionary-style presentation).
