Jekyl Island Event - Golf?

As a South Georgia resident and avid follower of the Mises Institute I am very likely to attend the event on Jekyl Island in Feb. 2010. I did, however, read that a possible golf outing is scheduled in the afternoon of the first day. This rang a bell in my memory and I thought it best to mention that the golf course at Jekyl Island is one of many state run golf courses in the USA. It actually loses money almost yearly (not only during this recent economic crisis) and often undercuts local, privately owned golf courses.

I hope that the Mises Institute is not intending to support such a facility and will choose to play at a privately run course, not one that is subsdized by the state. I feel that a discussion of the rights and wrongs of state run golf courses (or any other business) is not really required on this forum but I felt it necessary to voice my concerns about supporting such a facility which operates to the detriment of local businesses.

A fair complaint. Perhaps there are things that disallow the Mises institute to pursue a different course [ such as membership issues ]. Mr. Tucker frequents this forum so perhaps he will see this topic and address your concern since he can be considered the master of ceremonies.

Indeed, this is most likely. I do not wish to criticize the Institute at all, I merely wanted to point out the fact that the Jekyl Island golf courses are often criticized by local businesses (especially those in the golf industry) for its aggressive pricing strategies while subsidized by the state.
