As a note, since people are celebrating a holiday today, tomorrow is aphelion, that point in the Earth’s orbit at which the Earth is most distant from the Sun. Interestingly, we celebrate our New Year very close to perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) which occurs around Jan 4/5. It is well known that the winter religious festivals are connected to winter solistice (Dec. 21). Jewish New Year begins on the Spring equinox.
