I was in a class where a teacher justified the taxation of businesses to pay for the city’s infrastructure, which is the essence of what makes the city operable.
That brings up a whole other can of worms: public works spending, and how the city/state typically pays workers more than the value of what they produce.
Any other comments/refutations of this “justification” to hike the taxes of companies?
Sure - if they want it, they pay for it. If they don’t, they don’t. If the service provider cannot find a way to exclude “free riders” yet finds it worthwhile to provide the service nonetheless, then he does so of his own volition. “Free riders” have no obligation to pay for things they do not specifically commission.

Ask your teacher if it’s justified to bill the richest person in a restaurant for everyone else’s meal.
