Libertarian Editorial ideas (suggestions?)

The other day in my senior Government class my teacher was talking about our student council and how there is a ‘work on program’ then he added that it would be kinda neat if there was a work on program in real government so some good people good get up there who couldnt purchase all the publicity or have enough money to run a successfull campaign.
At the end of this talk he added this at the end…

“Of course it might not be a good idea cause youd probably get your occasional crazy communist or looney libertarian”.

I dont really get offended by things (maybe part of it is because im relatively new to libertarianism) but I write for our schools newspaper and all this really made me want to do is write an editorial about libertarianism, compare it to the republicans and democrats and write how it is a movement that our youth should endorse.

I want my thesis to basically state that both the republican and democrat party are very hypocrital and serve as oxymorons against themselves.

The Republicans support economic liberty and the free market (although the last 8 years under a republican administration and the current GOP nominee dont really support the belief of economic liberty and the free mark. So Im just gonna say the support little economic liberty but its atleast more than the dems). While the Republicans sort of support economic freedom, they find it necassary to restrain social freedom and not let people live the way the want inside their own household (same sex marriage, abortion rights, legalization of marijuana, etc).

While many Liberals support same sex marriage, abortion rights, and even the legalization of marijuana, they find it necassary to restrain the economic rights of individuals even more than the big government conservatives. They find it unfair for marriage to only be between a male and a female, they find it unfair to not let women do what they want with their body, yet they think it is perfectly fair to redistribute wealth and enforce unfair progressive taxes on people and force others to pay for the healthcare of people they do not even know.

Libertarians are not all 100% radical anarchists like the middle school kids you see drawing ‘anarchy’ signs on their binders. Libertarians don’t fully oppose the state, they support a voluntary state that protects the natural rights of all humans, not just a particular group. Libertarians support freedom, the other two political parties do not.

^^^ That is basically the direction I am goin with it, but I am relatively new to politics and libertarianism and would love to hear from much more inclined individuals on this forum. Let me know if any of my points are incorrect and please give me suggestions if you have any.

Thanks.

you’re making the common mistake of going right for the most controversial points. the points on which libertarians differ from everyone else.

I’d start with similarities. convince people that they’re already libertarians and just didn’t know it by pointing out the logical endpoint of any libertarian ideas they have (most people have some).

If you’re having an argument you’ve already lost.

well thats not at all how it will actually be written, thats just kind of the point im trying to make. And you also have to understand this is beind directed to 14-18 years olds.
