Listening to a Walter Block lecture on environmentalism and he brings up how this unsustainable clear cut logging we hear about is all too often occuring on government owned land that is being leased (I guess) in a way in which the lucky logger has no incentive to reseed.
I’ve heard a few people bring up this argument before, and it makes an awful lot of sense from an economic/political standpoint. I’m just having a bastard of a time trying to find any sources for it. It’s not that I’m finding contradictory evidence, I just can’t find any useful information at all.
I’ve found examples of people complaining about the government giving out leases to log the land, but nothing about the effects. What I’d like to find are some examples of the terrible logging activities you see on the news like the destruction in the Amazon where it’s not being reseeded and to find out who actually owns the land.
Anyone care to point me in the right direction?
