is that insane jap real?
I agree, in relative terms, it would be hard to find a better president than Reagan. This Japanese guy sounds a lot like some people on this forum. I just don’t think the guy would ever get elected. Because my main interest is politics rather than economics, my concern is what can and cannot be sold. We can talk all day about which matters more, but ultimately, we all want to see changes made. Some people just want all government gone. I don’t. I like the idea of limited government, I think it can sell. Believe me when I say that I know a lot of people on here will disagree with me on that.
Levin represents a group of pundits who say a lot of good things. I really enjoyed his books and I’ve always liked listening to his program. Is his philosophy perfect? Probably not. Are his economics perfect? Probably not. But does he have a strong political message that has and can again resonate within the minds of Americans? I think so. And that’s what I personally care about.
Well if he is a statist why are you even comparing him to Mises, unless you are somehow infering that Mises too is a statist in some fashion.
Yet all that but the environmental agenda happened under the Bush administration also. Are we to infer that Bush too is the apex of progressivsm?
Obama ended the war on terror.
"(AFP) – Jan 23, 2009
WASHINGTON (AFP) — President Barack Obama “declared an end” to his predecessor’s “war on terror” and began to heal the US reputation abroad…
With the stroke of his pen, he effectively declared an end to the ‘war on terror,’"
arguing within the government paradigm doesn’t work. it’s never sensible.
Meanwhile, Obama has sent 30,000 extra troops to enforce the non-war on imaginary terror?
This is too much like 1984 doublethink. We go from always being enemies with Eurasia to always being allies at the stroke of a pen?
and obama talks about war when getting his nobel peace prize. [:P] it’s never sensible.
Yes thank you. I call a spade a spade. Levin is a fascist who pays some lip service to ‘freedom’.

What is fascism?
Hm. Shouldn’t you do your own homework ?
Hm. Shouldn’t you do your own homework ?
Well, I think if you’re doing to throw around a term like fascist you should probably define it.
Are you talking about Mussolini type fascism? Or german fascism? What kind of fascist is Levin and from what school of fascism does he draw his influence?
Which policies does he endorse that you find to be stereotypically fascist? Have you read Levin’s books? Do you actually know what he says?
It seems that fascist levin licks the boots of fascist churchill ? Do you think I should study the complete ‘works’ of a third rate ideologue before commenting on any piece of propaganda he spouts ?
As to what fascism is, here’s a crucial component of it : deranged militarism-nationalism. If you want an example of deranged militarism you could search for the posts of one Jacob Bloom in this very forum…

How was Churchill fascist? What exactly did he do that was consistent with fascist political doctrine?
Fascism isn’t just a philosophy, it’s a political system.
I think you’ve confused any form of militarism with extreme militarism. Any form of nationalism with extreme nationalism.
For instance, I can say that I love America and want to see anything done to protect it without saying that I want a homogeneous populace (Hitler)
False dichotomies and slippery slope arguments are logical fallacies.
Bloom, I suggest, again, that you educate your-self.
Bloom, I suggest, again, that you educate your-self.
I suggest that you stop conflating philosophy with politics.
What’s that even supposed to mean ?
What’s that even supposed to mean ?
You have different concepts fused into one paradigm. So when you think of the state you think totalitarianism. Obviously it doesn’t always happen that way.
In other words, you might say that to support the military (like I do) is to support the police state (which I don’t.) At a philosophical level, one might claim that to endorse one is to endorse another. But it’s obvious that at a political level, things don’t always happen that way.
Capitalism, totalitarianism, fascism, communism, socialism, corporatism have their own criteria. People get one confused for another and all of a sudden being for capitalism means being for corporatism just because one can sometimes follow another. In the same way, I can want a state to exist without wanting it to be totalitarian and without it being market interventionist. Philosophy would say this is impossible.
But look at China. They’re still run by the communists for christ sakes but they’ve implemented capitalist measures into their economy.
We have to separate philosophical, political and economic into different categories or else we will mislabel things.
Not all forms of statism are fascism. Is Levin a statist? Yes. Is he a fascist? No. They’re not mutually inclusive.
I think fascism has become synonymous with national socialism, it’s just a purely authoritarian brand.
Leaders like FDR and Churchill may not have been fascist in the nature of being dictators, but their policies of militant nationalism along with the government socialization of industry puts them in the branches of national socialism…

The other side of German fascism was the institution of racism. That never happened in Italy.
Each culture develops its own forms of political systems. They tend to be unique to that one place.
It should also be noted that national socialism can either be heavy on nationalism or heavy on socialism. For Hitler, it was WAY heavier on nationalism than it was socialism.
I haven’t studied Churchill that much, but I have studied FDR somewhat I know he was much heavier on socialism than anything else.
How was Churchill fascist? What exactly did he do that was consistent with fascist political doctrine?
He promoted “the use of poisoned gas on rebellious tribes.”
Is Levin a statist? Yes. Is he a fascist?
No.Yes.
There, fixed it for you. Levin is a right wing militarist/nationalist who, as I said, throws in some libertarian sounding rhetoric in order to confuse people. And he probably does confuse people. However, in your case, I doubt you are confused. You are playing dumb, or else you need to better your understanding of ‘politics’ before claiming that churchill was not a fascist.
