Media Consolidation

Is anyone here familiar with the history of media regulation? The consolidation of media in the 20th century is alarming. Obviously it’s in the interest of the state/TPTB to have a limited spectrum of discourse, so I’m curious as to exactly how this situation culminated. I’ve read some articles about the various telecommunications acts but none ever go into much detail about what they actually are, who lobbied for them, etc. Most just tell the familiar results of industry oligopoly: after the Act of 1996 media ownership became more concentrated. Generalities like those abound. Does anyone have a more in-depth article or book on this matter?
