Ok. I never had a hero in my childhood short of my dad, who is now dead. I never worshiped basketball players or sports players or anything like that. In fact I find watching sports to be an incredible bore. So I’ve never felt compelled to know everything about someone. However recently being steeped in the Austrian school and reading some of the insanely brilliant work published there-in I have become extremely interested about several of the authors I’ve read. My interests have peaked in some of these indivudals liked never before. As such I’m curious.
What was the music preference of Mises, or Rothbard? Or?

Obviously I don’t expect people to answer for everyone but if you know the music preferences of one or two please post it! I’d like to know. If this is what its like to be interested in a ‘hero’ then so be it.

Rothbard was heavily into Jazz. He also liked other music of the 1930s era in general and liked classical up to Mozart. He disliked contemporary music but did not mind some of the Beatles`.
Word! Personally I like a lot of stuff; post-rock (sigur ros, godspeed you black emperor, mogwai) Progressive (rush, tool, jethro tull, quicksilver messenger service, primus, the flaming lips) Classical (Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff) Noise rock/shoegaze (my bloody valentine, swervedriver, sonic youth, dinosaur jr.) indie (mae shi, tokyo police club) country/folk (bob dylan, johnny cash, bright eyes) rap (zero, outkast, saul williams) dada (frank zappa) … goodness, I could go on forever.
I think a separate discussion separating aesthetics and valuational expression (did I make that up? I hope it makes sense to you guys - I mean in the sense of expressing politico-ethical preferences and their place in society) might be in order… maybe later tonight or tomorrow I’ll start it, or someone more knowledgeable could.
As far as prominent Austrians go I don’t have much to add to the discussion other than stating my own personal tastes and emphasizing that I am also an Austro-libertarian, and that I also pay several instruments… I have found in my life that finding new modes of expression can be just as rewarding as finding reflections of your own ethical beliefs in art.
Ok these I have already listened to heavily. The Gregorian Chants however and Mahler, pointed out by Jeffrey and Vitor, were huge bonus’s. Especially for the evening reading time! Thanks guys!
