Since I am forbidden to use the word “sucks,” then this must be forum policy now.
So, I expect moderators to forevermore censor all instances of the word “sucks.”
Please post the link where this was said or paste the text from a pm and who said it.
Also, was it context?
E.g did you say “suck me” or did you say" X sucks", the former referring to insult someone using a sexual remark, the latter meaning one thinks whatever x to be, is bad.
I titled a thread “Why Principled Libertarianism Sucks” to highlight how deontic principles are bound to fail in the real world.
Obviously, I wasn’t insulting a person, merely deontological absolutism (and, as a corollary, the version of libertarianism that believes such principles are absolutely necessary for the political philosophy itself).
Right or wrong, my guess is who ever made the edit probably did it as more of a context thing than the actual use of the word. Either way, my money is on the fact that the word will not be censored in all instances, as it seems a bit absurd.

What on earth is wrong with the word sucks?
The Mises forums are more heavily censored then daily articles.
First it was wrong for someone to post a Swastika with a star of David but its ok for a daily article to have a picture of a Republican/Democrat sign stamped on top of a Nazi.
Now the word sucks? I don’t even think my grandma would have a problem with me using that word…and thats saying something.

- Context. If StrangeLoop started telling everyone that they “suck,” then those posts would be censored as well.
If it is clear from the post that the intention is to hurt someone on the forum, then maybe that post should be censored.
However…saying taxes sucks, Krugmans grasp of economics sucks, saying someone sucks in jest (when it is clear), well…what is wrong with that?
It’s not so much grumpy, as somewhat intolerant of people who demand things and throw a fit on the forum whenever they don’t get their way.

A.L., as you can see, I haven’t censored “sucks” anymore. I mean, if you guys want to have a philosophical debate on the usage of the word “sucks”, then go ahead. But if someone insults someone else, then that insult will be censored.

No justification is necessary. Publisher’s (or his agent’s) discretion. It’s not censorship when the newspaper doesn’t publish an editorial or a letter to the editor or cover a particular angle in the story, or they reformat, edit it.
