Even though I am a fan of copyright law because I have worked in areas where copyright helped protect me getting paid for my ideas and work, this is just plain scary. Not completely unexpected because it seems that Obama and those in charge right now see us as subjects, not citizens, but scary none the less.

What happens if what you have turns out to not be pilfered, but bought by you. Can they then return it through their own backups or is it gone forever, and can you then go after the government for destroying your property?

Yet more ways we are losing being subjected to the state.

So how much of a police state would you support to prop up Intellectual 'property?

Ideally we would not need copyright laws just like we would not need laws for people breaking into our houses or stealing our property. The reality is that until we can get people to not steal what is not theirs, there is some sort of law. I guess I would take as much of a police state as you do to keep people from taking your house since that is what would be happening by people not respecting my copyright. I also think a grim view would be taken if I just went out and personally collected on infringements.It is not a police state I want to protect my Intellectual property. I want people to willingly respect everyone’s intellectual property.

Knowing that intellectual property is respected here just like physical property, and that people could make money with their creativity and intellect is why the US has moved the world technologically forward faster than it ever moved before. When people know their creativity can make them rich they are going to use it and better the world. When they know their creativity cannot bring them rewards they will not create. That is why socialism or any other tyrannical government never progresses the world, but leeches off of people that are more free.

I have found that most people are ignorant but respectful of copyright when they are informed about it and why we have copyright. Information on copyright is much better than any enforcement possible.
