I’ve wrote about this before, but was way before the straw polls and the Rasmussen Poll that just occured recently.
Do you think that the growing sentiment in this country will push towards a limited government within say, the next 10 years (or is this being way too optimistic)? I mean the fact that the cat is out of the bag on the Federal Reserve, the Constitution, and the wars really make me wonder at times…
I’m kind of getting sick and tired of hearing the same ol’ crap about the wars, healthcare and what not..But I know at some point we will actually have to face the writing on the wall.
Could a default actually be a good thing for this country?
What do you think will happen with Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security?
I feel generally optimistic. I think that a world free of government is the only inevitable state of affairs besides the end of human life.
Welfare programs are doomed. More and more people are realizing that they are Ponzi schemes. Things will get bad when insurrection comes, but I think we are better off than people in Iran after the recent election, but I suggest a contingency plan for anyone who has the resources. It’s obviously hard to say when shit will hit the fan, but I suspect things will happen very rapidly as with the Soviet and other collapses.
I think the entitlements will be scaled back but not eliminated. They are sustainable for a longer period of time if they hand out less.
Also, I don’t think we’re going to be looking at a sovereign default if the US can get its spending under control. Which it can. Whether by hook or by crook, they’ll figure something out.
I do not think that you will see significantly more freedom in the Western World in the next 10 years. I do not see societal breakdown on the level predicted by some like Gerald Clente and the new survivalists. The USA and much of the Western World have so much capital and are even today still listed as mostly free that it will take years for the tyrants calling themselves Liberals and Conservatives to destroy it. Now there will be a lot more misery than currently exists and there will be an unimaginable amount of lost productivity but that west will fare better than most.
I do predict that the laggards in freedom like India, Brazil, Mexico, hopefully China, etc will by becoming more free overtake the USA and its Western Buddies in economic development and in producing leading technology. That will only happen if they choose freedom over poverty. Understand that the ENTIRE WORLD became more economically free EXCEPT for the USA, UK and China. Understand that China has given out more freedom in a shorter period of time than any nation in history so it may just be taking a rest. Clearly the USA and UK are committing economic sucicide thorugh the increasing of the warefare/welfare state.
Im not sure much will change over the next 10 years. Same debates and finger pointing by Democrats and Republicans. More borrowing by the federal government. Minor tweaks to social security to keep it functioning a little while longer. The health care bill will be implemented with some alterations. They will keep the gravy train rolling as long as they can.
Once the gravy runs out, which I expect to see im my life time, there will be a dramatic reordering of the worlds political structure. Hopefully there will be room for more freedom.
WHEN will our gov’t start dropping bombs and murdering Iranians? Celente believes this will happen and it will be WW3. Citizens always yield Liberty for socialism during fear time of war.
I think Celente is right about a few things, but I think, well hope you are correct that he is a bit extreme on societal breakdown. I think times will be very tough and trying, but I don’t see everything collapsing.
The main thing holding back the development of greater empowerment to the individual is that there still exists a sizable list of preconceived notions as to the workings of economics, politics and human action. Every little meme from “Socialism works in theory,” to “If we just elect the right people,” dies hard and slow, and it’s this untempered thinking, more than any politician or pundit, that stands as the arch-nemesis of freedom. All that said, I’m generally confident that ours is the prevailing cause. The crown of government is built upon a foundation of delusion and falsehood, and it is always the nature of lies to someday come undone. If that tarnished crown can’t find a place within the nature of human action, then it will have to make way for the truth. Whether or not we stand on the precipice of its downfall however, remains to be seen.
My impression is he is a good predictor of events, but he knows nothing about economics. So his proposed solutions are questionable. He wants tarrifs, for instance.
Yeah, I was wondering about this as well. He doesn’t seem to have a very sound footing in economics at all. I mean anything can happen so I’m not disregarding the man completely, but I scratch my head at times when he says certain things though.
