Opus Dei Follows the Austrian School!

Okay, not exactly. But I found this very amusing:

There is a powerful Catholic group in Spain called Opus Dei. It is very close to the Pope and it is very pro-business. Someone in the order read the works of Hayek, saw him as very pro business, and sent out a message to the entire organization: Opus Dei should back the Austrians.

All of a sudden, all my books were being read by everyone in the order, and I began to lecture to their priests and members.

See this: http://mises.org/journals/aen/Aen17_2_1.asp.

Definitely a good thing.

Opus Dei has powerful political connections so it can help to spread libertarianism even further.

But opus dei is not without its controversies. I believe its (late) founder is under some criticism.

Sign of contradiction perhaps but I see this as a potential stumbling block for AE in catholic countries.

It’s easy to be pro-business when you’re far from power.
