The wonderful Mises Institute has many PDF files on their website that seem to be very easy to download. Great books, articles, and whatnot. Maybe this is the wrong place to talk about this. I was wondering what the terms of use are on those PDFs. Is Mises providing them free? Are the materials still under copyright? Are the materials old and out of print? I don’t want to get in trouble downloading them.

He is right. We are now going to publish everything in the future under CC3 to make this more explicit.
There are also some authors contracts we have to keep on some materials.
The Mises bookstore sell these same books for very low cost. I would imagine that if anyone planned to print and bind these books for resale they wouldn’t make much money.
It appears the institute’s main purpose is to spread the knowledge of Austrian Economics. Not to turn a profit. Thus the reason for low cost knowledge.
Funny, because when I went to University the equivalent books typically sold for 3 or more times the price that Mises sells them for. University book stores don’t mind robbing the poor students.

And that is a valid and appropriate way to compete and dominate a niche. You simply have to be better than any would be competitors. Mises.org does a great job of serving its customers rather than dictating to its customers.
I’d sell ad space in those books. Why throw away a few dollars? Can a dot org do that?
