Praxeology and Positive Psychology

Praxeologists might be interested in the branch of pychology created by Martin Seligman, called Positive Psychology. Martin Seligman argues that psychology should not only care about mental illness but also about mental wellness, happiness, and he sees the root of mental wellness in ethics. His views are pretty much Aristotelian and I think Praxeological though of course not really in the economical sense, as it’s a different discipline of science.

Might worth taking a look.

One could argue that understanding mental illness conversely helps one to understand mental wellness, but certainly psychology has tended to focus on abnormal over normal. The ethics idea is interesting, because it shows possible cross-disciplinary ideas. Specialization of the sciences helps to develop the individual branches, but eventually they need to be integrated to create a holistic view once again.

Praxeology is the study of practice. So, it’s already a part of psychology. Economics is psychology with more math.

Btw, Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine is a Bastiat/Mises reader. He’s promoting “neuroeconomics”. He has a new book called Mind of the Market.
