Red Dawn On Ice

Dear Americans,

It saddens me to tell you this after walking from your restful slumber but you have apparently awoken to a new ‘Cold War.’ As we speak Soviets, who let’s be honest never turned into Russians, are secretly plotting in darkened rooms with shifty eyes and hushed voices. What could these saboteurs be plotting in such inauspicious surroundings? Quite simply the complete and utter ruination of male figure skating. For you see, figure skating is the sport of national pride for both the Russians and United States which has long lead to a bipolar power struggle. A struggle between Good and Evil if you will. This struggle however was not an overt one. It was carried out much like the meetings of these present day Soviet fiends. Always illusive in the background. The 2010 Olympic games has apparently lead to the complete fall to madness of these backward people leading them to claim that one cannot win without the ‘quad jump.’ Utter nonsense! The fancy feet and jazz hands of Evan Lysacek were simply too much for the Russian bear and Lsyacek mystified it in a stupor like state thus showing the superiority of not only American figure skating but America in general. The Soviets, in their child-like mannerisms, cannot help but be entertained by such tactics.

I have been told by reliable sources that when Putin dictated his telegraph, which would later be sent to Evgeni Plushenko, that he ended it with furiously banging an ice skate against his desk yelling ‘We will bury them…in ice!’ Such barbaric behavior will not be stopped with kind words and diplomatic tongues ladies and gentlemen. Though we should not be afraid. The media is making all aware that the Cold war is coming, however we must all do our part to support our nation. Pick up your remotes my fellow citizens! Boo the TV when you see these Soviet dogs on display and do not let Sovietism wreck male figure skating! For today it could be figure skating but tomorrow…the world!

YES!

Figure skating is even more rigged than boxing. There’s nothing new here.

That is presuming the Cold War was ever about the Soviets.

Julia Mancuso FTW!

LOL. USA USA!

Wait, what do you mean?

I was referring to this part. I should had probably quoted it.

I mean that judging by the fact that the Cold War never ceased to be waged by Washington it would seem it was never about the Soviets, but rather about Russians the whole time.

I’m still scratching my head.

It could be said the cold war started in 1815 and is being waged to the present time with only a short respite from 1907 to 1945 designed to check a mutual threat - Germany. It was originally a contest between Russia and the western world hegemon of that time - Great Britain. But as in 1945 America inherited British world supremacy it aside from its traditional role in relation to the colonies also inherited its traditional role in regard to Russia. So while always overtly ideological this contest more fundamentally than on ideology rested on traditional western, particularly Anglo-American view of the east and therefore of the Russians. It was never so much about disliking Communists as it was about fearing and misunderstanding Russians. This is seemingly confirmed by the fact that Russia was the great - supposedly ideological - bugaboo both when it was a fortress of reaction, and when it was a fortress of socialist radicalism. And by the fact that the vast overwhelming majority of - supposedly ideological - cold war warriors continue to promote exactly the same policies in regard to Moscow today. Without even having skipped a beat when Russians overnight in a spectacular and unforeseen event peacefully cast of Communism and dissolved the Soviet Union.

So it is not that Soviets failed to in the minds of Americans revert to Russians. It is that it was always about Russians, and their Sovietism was always - aside for honourable exceptions like Pat Buchanan - just an excuse to justify views they would have held anyway.
