so what is economic conservatism? I guess he’s economically liberal outside of the american sense of liberal but in the classical sense.
I don’t know what is it? So-called liberals today are pretty conservative economically. They don’t really realize it, but the policies that they advocate would perpetuate current economic conditions, thus being conservative.
I always thought conservative meant conservative in regards to public funds, not conservative to the current structure.

It just so happens that you are using the word in a different connotation, you would be looked at with blank stares by most people if you used th term “economically liberal” the way in which you currently are.
How so? This I believe to be completely false. How can he be considered economically conservative when he does not advocate conservative economic policies?
Conservative can mean “wanting to keep the status quo.”
Do you consider Republicans conservatives? They certainly consider themselves that! And they hardly want to keep the status quo that is Obama.
The temporal meaning of conservative means “rooted in the present” while the political meaning is “smaller government” (although they pervert this quite far).

When terms like conservative and liberal are vaguely defined, one can be called conservative/liberal/anything.
