Ron Paul will run in 2012

Figured this might deserve it’s own thread. Paul is apparently kicking off his 2012 presidential run tomorrow. Good times will be had by all:

"Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, whose outspoken libertarian views and folksy style made him a cult hero during two previous presidential campaigns, will announce on Tuesday that he’s going to try a third time.

Sources close to Paul, who is in his 12th term in the House, said he will unveil an exploratory presidential committee, a key step in gearing up for a White House race. He will also unveil the campaign’s leadership team in Iowa, where the first votes of the presidential election will be cast in caucuses next year."

Not exactly. I’m sure he will be running, but he still has a few weeks before he officially announces it.

“folksy style”

WTF? Really? What kind of crap is that?

@Phaedros: Yeah, RP is a big populist.

*rolling eyes

I still think that Ron Paul might do better if he created his own party.

What in the world makes you think that?

“I still think that Ron Paul might do better if he created his own party.”

It might be… if his goal was to get elected… except it’s not.

It’s about education & spreading the message.

Well it might have the effect of shaking up the two party democracy that exists in the states.

Third parties are way too easy to ignore and the whole point of running to be highly visible. Many Republicans are easy to convince of libertarianism. Also if Ron wins the Republican convention, then it will be impossible for the media to ignore Ron Paul’s ideas.

Jack Roberts, I think that’s unlikely to happen, given the nature of the US electoral system.
