Spot the fallacy time! Notice he automatically assumes that Texas would immediatly strengthen its newly independent statehood with the same exact machinery that the USA’s Federal government does. How would it pay for it all, he asks? Haha… How indeed does the existing Federal Government pay for it? : o)
Olbermann spends his entire rant sputtering about how terrible life will be for Texans without the Federal Government’s aid. I doubt I need to discuss with anyone here about the numerous problems with his argument; but go ahead and watch for your own amusement and horror.
What he fails to understand is that Texas would stop paying federal taxes and redirect that towards the Republic of Texas. It’s, to a great extent, proportional. I mean, yeah, that’s where Texas would get its money to pay for public services.
“What about the Dallas Cowboys!? Omigosh!” Yeah, I doubt that they would leave the NFL. What an idiotic comment that was.
Tell Obermann not tow worry, the more likely situation for Texas and the rest of the California Territory is that Mexico will take it back. At least Mexico can pay the not so modest debts of California (the state) with oil or gold. That is a far cry better than the US Government paying them with their electronic currency.
