Should I sell those japanese stocks.. or buy more?

Mizuho financial group, Mitsubishi financial group and Nomura holdings (all Tokyo based).

Reason to sell: japanese earthquake (btw Tokyo not affected)

Reason to buy more: japanese central bank will be printing like crazy; price already depressed

What should I do?

Why are you holding stocks all in investment groups?

I was expecting Japan economy to have its money-printing boost (as well as it happened for other countries) after a 20 year bear market.. btw I didn’t invested that much into this. Those 3 companies looks like uber contrarian investment. Who knows, btw I didn’t putted that much money in them, just a little percentage of my investments.

I don’t see anything innovative coming out of Japan, it’s mostly a gamble. Maybe you might get the weaboos buying more anime in case they think this disaster will somehow prevent writers in Japan from writing more manga/anime. But honestly, I don’t expect the average anime nerd to think that far ahead to even stockpile on their fandom. So I’d just sell them if I were you.

I don’t see much hope for Nomura in the immediate future. Mizuho holds much more promise (it’s the only one of the three who turned a profit in 2010) and Mitsubishi… well, it’s Mitsubishi and I would never dare to bet against it. Their investments are so diversified (for example their keiretsu is Honda’s #1 stock holder) and they control that goldmine that is Mitsubishi Chemical. If I were you I would wait and see prices next week.

Assuming they are worthwhile stocks, there is no reason to sell just because they took a hit from an earthquake. Whatever made them good before is still going to be churning out their goodness now.

Another thing that may be of interest to you. The Bank of Japan (BoJ) announced it will pump 15 trillion yen (about 130 billion euro) into the economy through a variety of means according to the BBC. Keep an eye on the Tokyo exchange as this period will be marked by wild fluctuations: prices are plummeting and there will be plenty of old fashioned speculation.

Also keep a close eye out on announcements by the Japanese government regarding future plans about nuclear power plants. Toshiba owns Westinghouse, one of the world leaders in nuclear energy. If Japan decides to overhaul its surviving nuclear reactors to higher security standards or build completely new plants, Toshiba is bound to be a company to look out for.

Remember when Sam Walton died? (of Walmart, Inc.). I bought 500 shares two days after. Could not convince a friend or family to follow.

I expected, when Mr. Walton died, the Company would Go To Work.. and they did. In fact the shares increased and split. Lucky me.

See, Sam was a fairly rigid American products only kind of guy…the company, as you might observe now, moved into oversea products quickly.

God help me if before I even Post, someone asks me what’s my point. Ha.

Invest in Japan. Do it now, do it quickly. These are hardy, steadfast, not easily cowarded people. Japan will rebuild. Japan will use outside technology and/or assistance. Japan’s working class will throw themselves into the impending employer’s market. Study up if you like. Check with your mentors if you must. But think long and you’ll think wrong.
