This is the damned truth, LS. I only recently came to this conclusion, sadly, and I just turned 30. I am now open about my anarchistic leanings, bisexual nature, and my polyamorous lifestyle. Haha.. it turned out, my friends are still my friends, but my family is “highly disappointed” in me. I actually feel more free than I had ever felt before. One cannot be afraid of ones own feelings, it’s egregious to one’s self. How are we to show examples of living free if we’re afraid to be who we are?
I am now a practitioner of the “radical honesty” lifestyle.
Lol I don’t wanna here any more 'bout this welfare romance crap! I thought I was in love once. It was in bloody high school so everyone just said it was just teenage hormones or I didn’t know what love was or some crap like that… Still don’t know if I was or not but I was a wreck for two months afterwards.
I completely agree. I was calm, rational, and patient each time I came out. I was not blunt, I spoke slowly on the subjects, to give them breather space. =X
As for my interests music is.. Id ont even know where to start. Its everything from Jazz and Classical, to traditional doom metal and black metal, to electronic music, to progressive rock, to stoner rock, post-rock, ambient, sludge metal, melodic metal, indie rock… I should note that I’ve been learning Piano for a year now, I like synthesizer work too.
Nothing that is a genre of Country, American Rap, or Latin music.
As for books, I tried getting into George R. R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, but the first book is way too tedious. Any fantasy is extremely tedious. I haven’t been into a lot of books for awhile, the last book I finished was Ender’s Game. I like Fiction, but I also like my metaphysics and romance(literature term) in books. I think I am going to try reading Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ series.
I like Anti-Hero characters, too much literature has cliche characters. I thought about writing a short story of an Libertarian-kind of protagonist who ditches his Kingdom because the Hiearchy drives him crazy, his father being the king, telling him who to marry, and wanting to fight in a war for his interests. A bit of an Anti-Hero character who hates Nobles and Knights but cares about people.
As for movies… I haven’t been much of a movie person ever, but the last movie I really liked was Dr.Zvago, it was the most epic movie ever. I stayed up late watching it one night, and the whole thing was an epic emotional journey.
Also I met a girl who is a Libertarian, and calls herself a “Defender of the Constitution” I told her about Mises, and she said she wanted to hear more about Anarchism. What should I do?
hahahahaha champ, save the anarchy shit until youve been inside her and youre really really close. you’ll never get a girl by talking to her about anarchy before you even know her. ive been with a girl for a month and still havent brought it up, and im still not going to for a while.
i never talk about anarchy with anyone save family and close friends and even then…
You guys can always talk about anarchist ideals without mentioning the dreaded A word. Like if a violation of the NAP comes up you can talk about how important liberty is and if there is a non-aggressive alternative we should pursue that etc.
I was explaining to a group of people that virtually everyone is open to libertarianism, since not one member of the group has or ever will use violence on an innocent to get what they want. I didn’t drop the A word though.
I asked myself once, “Self, what’s the point of believing in something if you’re not going to stand up for it or be embarrassed about it?”
Since then, I haven’t been embarrassed about being an anarchist, a libertarian, or anything else that I am. Does someone really believe in a cause if they’re willing to brush it aside, tip-toe around it, and not mention it to save face? My values are part of who I am, and that’s nothing to be ashamed about.
I, for one, have had enough of being crapped on for being the “religious majority” or “racial majority” or “political extremist”. Heck, I’m the one who believes in the NAP through-and-through. As far as I’m concerned, that makes my stance ethically and morally superior to anyone who doesn’t side with me on that issue, and taking that stance is something to brag about.
Being weak about what you believe in makes other people think that it is a confused cause. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Exactly, Joe. I am not embarrassed to be an Anarchist. However, Snowflake.. was it Snowflake? Mentioned never dropping the A word and just talking libertarian principles. That is how I do it when I am in a group of people. one on one, I tend to drop that A word. It’s a more useful tactic.
I was listening to this audio lecture from Hans-Herman Hoppe talking about Mises and Moral Courage. I’m down like a clown with this.
Quoted for truth. Bringing up anything like this with a girl you want to get with is nothing short of insane, at least before you get her. She may love liberty and all, but it’s not going to get her hot and bothered.
^There’s never a definitive point of truly screwing up on something like that. All women are different. You’ll be able to tell if you’ve already screwed up. Don’t feel like you’ve failed already when you haven’t.
