It seems both are Catalan posters are saying independence is noticeably more popular with regular Catalans than with Catalan parties. I wonder why that is? Is it simply the case that this strong pro-independence sentiment is a recenet grassroots development and so these parties have not had the time to catch up? Or is it the case that with independence they stand to lose something? What could it be?

It’s kind of complicated. The major party, CiU, is a coalition of 2 parties, one more liberal (in the good sense) and one more conservative. The former is more important than the latter, and is more friendly to the idea of independence too. However, they have never gone to an election separated, and is unknown how would they perform, so they are not going to try.
My opinion is that until they fear to lose a majority of independentist voters, they will remain ambiguous to avoid losing their unionist voters.
The second main party is mainly unionist, but they would like to avoid having the debate Catalonia-Spain as much as possible, for fear of losing some independentist or more catalanist voters too.
Sounds like the situation with the Republicans and the 2nd amendman supporters.
