How do you confront people in regard to austrian economics? I know some things to say while in the conversation but how do you engage someone in it intially?
Friend: So the Heat had a good game last night aye?
Me: Did you know the government is a destroyer of Wealth?
Friend: …Dwayne Wade had 30 points
Me: cool…
Any ideas? Or maybe I misses a thread? Any help would be nice thanks.
The NBA is susceptible to economic forces. It’s a business. So that’s an easy one.
You have to have knowledge about what your counterpart likes to discuss, as well as economics.
It would probably be easiest to demonstrate. Pick a topic and start a conversation with me. You play the non-Austrian, and make it tough. Challenge me. Let’s talk about cupcakes or bone marrow cancer in Dobermans. We can go back and forth for a couple posts.
Thats my problem, I dont want be an a-hole but at the same time shouldn’t people know our side, as its frustering, seeing people just denouce it without thought.
Patience is necessary in nearly every facet of life if you want to achieve anything worth achieving.
I have been working on some people for years. While it’s easy to get swallowed up in all this (I’m guilty of this) and feel like the forces of tyranny are choking you in your sleep, it’s very important to maintain the longview. If you can affect 5 people in your life with ideas of liberty, that is a remarkable achievement. It doesn’t all have to happen at once, or even in one conversation.
Take the time to learn how to communicate effectively. It will pay off in other areas and it is what is so sorely lacking in a movement dominated by ideologues.
If you haven’t listened to the Rabbi Daniel Lapin speech from the ASC, I recommend it. You have to focus on providing what the other person needs, not on what you want to say.
