I think that, in the U.S., the apathy that everyone here sees will be cured only when the economy is bad enough that it effects people menial little lives.
When gasoline is 9 bucks a gallon people will wake up and realize how stupid many of them are. I have beeen slamming my head against the wall trying to get people around me to look at politics and the wars and the most common responses i get are:
a.) “Who cares?” or “Why do you care?” and
b.) (on the wars) “There is always war, there is nothing we can do about it.”
Now, i can’t think of a more pathetic outlook on the wars than that, (so much so that it has made my stomach turn typing it) yet the people who i shudder to call my “friends” don’t care about anything important, but the things that have directly to do with them. Their “art” and pathetically shallow “relationships” that many of them have. It scares me and, at the same time, makes me want a nuclear catasrophe (Ozmondia style) or a debt market collapse. Which in turn makes me think that I, myself, am hoping for my family and everyone i know to be destroyed.
Is there anything that will wake people up short of mass deaths and the destruction of everyone’s legitimate future?
