Wow, I never had a statist argue analytically with me for that long. They usually just recite like two sentences of some litany they memorized uncritically and if I talk back they just declare me some form of ignoble person (rich, greedy, racist, uncaring, racist…) which discredits everything I say out of hand.
I have, to varying degrees. Some of them will stick to the argument, others will throw in a litany of non-sequiturs. It depends on how intellectually honest they are, because some will consider libertarianism for a short while, but that’s the extent of it; they entertain the idea and write it off as not being feasible. Of course the majority are dyed-in-the-wool statists who watch The Young Turks and take The Daily Show as a serious source of news.
