This right-wing email caught my attention

I often get a right-wing emails from relatives. They get annoying, and most of the time I ignore them, but this one was too interesting to ignore. Roll the tape:

[quoteuser=“right-wing relative”]

Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from
the Union . (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

We Texans love y’all, but we’ll probably have to
Take action since B. Hussein Obama won the election. We’ll miss you too.

Here is what can happen:

#1: Barack Hussein Obama becomes President of the United States ,
Texas immediately secedes from the Union .

#2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas .

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

  1. NASA is just south of Houston , Texas . We will control the space
    industry.

  2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.

  3. Defense Industry–we have over 65% of it. The term “Don’t mess with
Texas ,” will take on a whole
    New meaning.

  4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for
the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that.

  5. Natural Gas - again we have all we need and it’s too bad about those
Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them
    warm…

  6. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer
chips and communications–small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell
Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials,
Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc.
The list goes on and on.

  7. Medical Care - We have the largest research centers for cancer research,
the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as
other large health centers. Dallas has some of the best hospitals in the
    United States .

  8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: University of Texas , Texas
A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston , Baylor, UNT
(University of North Texas ), Texas Women’s University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

  9. We have a ready suppl y of workers. We could just open the border when
    we need some more.

  10. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance,
    etc.

  11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas
National Guard and the Texas Air National
Guard. We don’t have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least
six rifles and a pile of ammo , we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need
one. If the situation really gets bad, We can always call the Department of Public Safety
and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.

  12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several
types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let’s not forget seafood from the
Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste
good. Don’t n eed any food.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in
good shape. There isn’t a thing out there that we need and don’t have.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama:

Since you won’t have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only
President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The
rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won’t have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite
communications.

You won’t have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has
predicted global warming, you will no t need the gas as long as you survive
the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.

Signed, The People of Texas

P.S.. This i s not a threatening letter - just a note to give you something
to think about!

Bring it on. Texas suceeding would instantly validate sucession movements in the public consciousness, or at least jump start the discussion. If California managed to sort out it’s debt, I don’t see how they couldn’t either.

If Texas withdraws from the union, how does it give them a right to declare war on the union?

Not entirely sure, but that is assuming that The Statists would let Texas do this in the first place. One successful succession, especially of a state as big as Texas, would potentially open a Pandora’s Box regarding the future of the U.S.

Assuming of course, the US doesn’t just delcare war on a rouge state & a new civil war breaks out. That would help with some elite’s fetish for de-population, however.

It is completely false that only Texas has the right to secede. Many of the ratifications of the Constitution explicitly included a reference to the right of secession.

Secession seems to be a somewhat popular topic these days. William Grigg also entertained the notion over at LewRockwell a couple of weeks ago, but I’m skeptical.

With all the talk about “coming together” and “healing the dissenters” that permeated Obama’s rhetoric during the campaign and after his victory, and the more than favorable response from his supporters, only a really reactionary, gun-loving redneck state could, in my view, possibly mobilize enough support for such an idea. And I’m not sure that a) such a place still exists today, or b) we want to spend our sunset years in Boondocks Country, even though it would be a breath of fresh air if you ask me. [:)]

This just went from pretty awesome to shit, fast.

I’m always impressed by how knowledgable the people writing these are!

I doubt it would last, actually. Suffice to say, they would probably have their own election, & I couldn’t imagine how competitive it would be to be the first President of the Republic of Texas.

Not a good possibility though, I admit.

Ron Paul,. obviously.

I second that motion!

Texans would never go for it, though. We talk tough, and we like having the cowboy-badass-redneck reputation sometimes. When it comes right down to it, the reason Texas is so great is that we supply a large quantity of “stuff” that the rest of the country consumes. That would not change with Texas leaving the US. We would consume what we need, and shift surpluses to “foreign” exports (to the US).

It would be great if our Federal Gummint actually feared this scenario, though. I can imagine the threshold of how much Congress thinks they can get away with before states begin to secede and/or people revolt would be much lower.

Governments should fear their people, not the other way around.

Also, GW Bush is not well liked here any more. He was a great governor, but after leaving here he seemed to have been brainwashed by the neocons.

I love Right Wing E-mail chain letters.

When the left wing goes into panic mode they get boring and threaten to go to Canada. They don’t even do something cool like claim that American Society would collapse without English majors and Social Workers because at least they are smart enough to know that no one would really care that they all moved to Ottowa.

But the right wing in America is awesome entertainment with a frightening side…like “Gangsta Rap” except they do not bother to decorate their teeth. There is always some twisted logic that is a veneer covering a notice that they are armed, and very afraid.

I find this hilarious.

Plus it is alway written by some anonymous person who spent time to plink together a few right wing talking points from somewhere on Little Green Footballs or Pajamas Media and then forwarded it to people barely smart enough to hit the “send” button in an webmail program (I have some relatives that send me these too).

My favorite one was an e-mail called “The Gathering Of Eagles”. Some morons in the hinterlands decided that anti-war protesters were going to destroy the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC. So they did what any patriotic idiot would do: Loaded up the Harley Davidson with stuffed animals and trinkets and drove off to protect a Memorial that no one had any intention of vandalising. On their website they advised that attendees bring canes so they could claim they needed help walking but really use them to beat down hippies.

But back to the original. Texas can secede. Technically any state can of course but the reality might be another story. Like most right wing e-mail forwards they get a few facts straight before they head off into the crazy. That is why I love them so much.

I hope Texas does secede but they do need a more literate propaganda department.

I don’t see life getting any better for Texans if they secede. They would probably throw up protectionist controls immediately (immigration and trade laws). One of the things I do like about the U.S. is at least there are no trade restrictions between the states.

I really do not see how this would help anyone, including our cause.

And another thing: did anybody notice the irony of saying One Nation Under God in an email advocating secession?

What about the nasa space station in Florida?

Do they also have what they need for medicine and materials for manufacturing new equipment? (of course, trade, but it seems to reject that option)

I think the forum quote bug needs to be addressed :frowning:

One Nation Under God ~end

Hmmm, interesting…I wonder who wrote it? He/she clearly put decent thought into it. It would be interesting to see how the government would react if such a thing were to happen.

Secession is our cause.

Governments should fear the reprisal of their people; people should not fear the reprisal of their government.

The threat of secession, if it were taken seriously by politicians, would be an additional motivator toward a less intrusive government.

If any state was more likely to leave the US, it would be Texas, IMHO. But then again, I am biased!
