I think we are at a time where organizing a significant (peaceful) tax payer revolt is very much a reality. What would an effective number of rebels be 10,000, 100,000, 1 million, or higher? This should be the time to start getting grass root ideas as to how to effectivly come up with plans, strats, and petition type drives. When the economy REALLY goes bust the groundwork for a tax revolution will have been laid. How does one start though? The quicker people get organized the better.
P.S. have you ever noticed how fascistic all those campaign posters and pics of Obama looked? Kind of odd.
I don’t think it’s the best way to go. I think microsecession is a far better bet. The problem with tax payer revolts is that they’re too easy to demonize, on the other hand microsecession is far more difficult. Since it essentially involves individuals who want to slip away from the state peacefully and conflict free.
In any case, I don’t see what a tax payer revolt could acheive. On the other hand microsecession would be far easier to coordinate and could acheive tangible results far more quickly.
Yeah but was that not tried in the case of the Montana Freemen? And if I recall, it just became another ‘stand off’ for no real reason. With microsecession you are in a nice little box for the state to be able to surround and destroy.
Which is why it has to be coordinated between several different groups across the nation. If 5 small towns across the USA were to seceede at the same time in the present day and age, whilst giving no excuse for coercion on the behalf of the state it would be far more difficult to do it.
You’re correct I think - the current problem is that it has always been a small group on a ‘compound’, which makes for easy demonization. But even the town secession thesis has problems. I believe in the formation of the ‘Paulville’ project in Texas, they discussed secession. IMO, if they were to actually try to secede, the state would simply try to label it as a ‘really big compound’. For something like microsecession to be successful, I believe it will take alot more than 5 towns.
Well, it’s not so much an issue of numbers as it is about coordination. To begin with they’d need to the explicit in their aims, informing the public via every means possible that what they wish to do is nothing more than live peaceful lives without the state. I believe that if this approach were backed through the political means and academia it would be successful. Imagine Ron Paul publicly endorsing such an action, it would make the whole thing seem far more credibly. Furthermore, they’d need to make sure they didn’t breach state rules and relinquished the state’s property to it (e.g. the roads), and not allowing drug dealers or whatever to operate there.
It would also be necessary to make sure that there was unanimous consent within the towns so that the state couldn’t claim to be on a rescue mission when it stormed in there. Finally, they’d have to be armed to the teeth and ready to shoot it out.
An orginized revolt with enough people could accomplish great things as long as it was peaceful. If the revolt is big enough and everyone is peaceful it would be harder to demonize. It would look bad on the states part to start arresting/ being agresive to a plethora of peacful people. I think due to the era we are in, if it gained ground it wouldn’t seem so fringe (except by propagandist type media). I could, at this point in time though see a lot of AM radio types being sympathetic and not demonizing us, as long as the revolt is organized, large enough, and peacful. I think this is an excellent time to think seriously about it, many people are suffering with no relief in sight due to the oppression that is taking place. Like I said if it could pick up steam I think it would be more acceptable to the mainstream.
It would also be important to show somehow, that any arrests made or violence used on these people is the Federal Govt fault, not the cops or media they are just the tools being used. Or maybe we actually are in the era of “two legs good two legs better” ?
Is the growth of the Free State Project driving you crazy?
Just kidding, it’s just what I think every time I listen to one of the LewRockwell podcasts…Didn’t they just get their states rights bill struck down 11-7? At a cursory glance it would seem that if they cannot gain internal support how will they garner external support in the face of the National government…? (I know ‘it’s early’ though)
Political uprisings don’t work that way. First you must get a large number of people to sign on to a list of grievances you wish to see redressed. A manifesto of sorts considering that there is no chance that the grievances will be corrected.
I’m not promoting the Free State Project, but I guess that was my answer to the question. How many? I don’t think it’s a number. Maybe it’s a system. Why not use the state (or a state) to take on the state?
