I was reading the Daily Anarchist and found this link posted on their Web site. One of the authors wrote in a piece to the local Auburn (California) journal about their decision not to renew their driver’s license and I had some fun reading the comments:
Henry David Thoreau’s famous act of civil disobedience was in protest of war. But going to jail to protest “the government monopoly of transportation?” Who the F$&@ cares? Seth you need to set your sights a little higher.
Seth, driving is a privilage, not an entitlement, as you will find out…i do have uninsured motorist insurance to cover my loss in case we do meet on the road somewhere, others may not be so fortunate for your selfish actions…
Seth-Please post your court dates. A few of us want to come and watch you explain things to the judge. You might want to consider investing in a bike or asking for one for your B-day. Happy B-day little one.

Beats Florida- I think its 5 years here (Mines odd- its good until I turn 21 for obvious reasons as the angle the photo is at changes), but you have to currently have:
Birth certificate or passport,
Social Security Number (either original card or other form including W-2)
2 Different proofs of address
Not choose 1 or 2 of the 3- all of them, just for a driver license or change of name, etc.
More and more people should read the relevant Traffic Acts before applying for a commercial license to become a driver. But then most folks just follow the herd, and are oblivious to the common law right to travel within the commonwealth and US.
A friend of mine didn’t renew his registration for I forgot how long and he got slapped with a $5,000 fine, or something like that. He got the fine dramatically reduced in court, though.

Who here reads any laws or fine print before they apply for or sign for anything? I bet almost know one. If you read your state’s Act (statute) which requires licensing to drive (operate a conveyance for commerical purposes) with a legal dictionary at hand, you can find out what you’re actually obligated to do.
Traffic court is not actually a court, it is an administrative hearing in front of a magistrate. Granted, all these guys have guns and will F*** you up if you prove to be a nuisance or challenge their authority directly, but there is usually no foundation in LAW for speeding tickets or requirements to be licensed at all.
If you’re interested in Voluntarism vs. state law, let me suggest Marc Stevens’ book, “Adventures in Legal Land”. I like it quite a bit.
Also, while there is some enlightening stuff in the freeman movement, there is also a lot of bullcrap and nonsense, so I would take stuff from that (different from Voluntarism) with a grain of salt for sure. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. We’re dealing with bloodthirsty violent criminals when we’re talking about the state. This is not a bunch of misguided do gooders. At their core is a lust for power and the violent capability and propensity to demand more of it.
Who cares about a stinking driver’s license? It’s the “insurance” from Armandleg Co. that you don’t want. That’s what makes it really worth it, assuming you go the route other than what LS is talking about.
