WE'VE WON!!

After all the years of complaining; all the articles of logic; all the papers, discertations, speeches and books condemning state intervention into the market, they’ve finally heard you!

Obama says he will elminate regulations that stifle growth.

That must mean he’s going to eliminate all of them! … Right?

No?

Well, I’ve held my breath this long, a little longer won’t hurt. … Right?

Presumably then he intends to eliminate himself?

Obama launches review of federal regulations; gives up after five minutes.

At this point the corporations that the article refers to are essentially committees of the executive branch. It’s like a school board president calling a school principal and negotiating a curriculum review.

Clinton did the same thing (claimed to at least). This is nothing new.

This is part of Obama’s re-election plan. He’s going to cut some regulations around the edges, hopefully making it easier to operate businesses, and maybe he’ll do something to simplify taxes, etc. He’s simply trying to reposition himself as a middle-of-the-road centrist, so that he gets re-elected easier (think Clinton).

In any case, here is what Obama has to say about his proposed plan to clean up the regulatory system: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703396604576088272112103698.html

I thought it was the individual that mattered, and that growth/no growth, was an individual/private concern?

Obama the Comedian. He gets funnier every year.

My reaction to Obama’s WSJ opinion:

Before even commenting on Obama’s words, a brief consideration of his character matters since it can show the motivations for his actions. This is a man that can order death against innocent Iraqis, Afghans, and Pakistanis without seemingly any doubt, but publicly shows concern about deaths due to a recent Arizona shooting. This is a man who endorses slavery (along with the rest of the U.S. political system). He may not believe he endorses slavery, but taxation is extortion and if you doubt so, try not paying. He is the head of one of the most powerful organized crime groups in history, the U.S. government.

“For two centuries, America’s free market”

Wrong. From the start, the American Revolution was sustained with conscription and inflation and afterwards Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton decided to falsify the plain meaning of the U.S. constitution to allow authority for a central bank and other kinds of intervention. Quotas, tariffs, bailouts, they are a U.S. tradition from the beginning. So, right from the beginning, the President is historically wrong.

“From child labor laws to the Clean Air Act to our most recent strictures against hidden fees and penalties by credit card companies, we have, from time to time, embraced common sense rules of the road that strengthen our country without unduly interfering with the pursuit of progress and the growth of our economy.”

Criminalizing child labor made children who needed to work to survive even more desperate. Congratulations, progressives (socialists in disguise). The Clean Air Act would never have seen the light of day if old law about stopping air pollution as a violation of property were enforced. Economist Todd Zywicki explained how there are harmful unintended consequences for trying to regulate credit card companies.

“Sometimes, those rules have gotten out of balance, placing unreasonable burdens on business—burdens that have stifled innovation and have had a chilling effect on growth and jobs.”

This has happened since day 1.

“Such was the case in the run-up to the financial crisis from which we are still recovering. There, a lack of proper oversight and transparency nearly led to the collapse of the financial markets and a full-scale Depression.”

It was the government’s fault. Period.

“Over the past two years, the goal of my administration has been to strike the right balance.”

I thought it was always about election and reelection.

“And today, I am signing an executive order that makes clear that this is the operating principle of our government.”

If this is such a good idea, why was it not done earlier? To not have implement such a good idea earlier shows me you are lazy and not serious enough.

“This order requires that federal agencies ensure that regulations protect our safety, health and environment while promoting economic growth. And it orders a government-wide review of the rules already on the books to remove outdated regulations that stifle job creation and make our economy less competitive.”

Scrape the minimum wage? End the Fed? Nah.

“Where necessary, we won’t shy away from addressing obvious gaps: new safety rules for infant formula; procedures to stop preventable infections in hospitals; efforts to target chronic violators of workplace safety laws.”

Why not rely on private firms to check on products like Consumer Reports and Underwriters Laboratories? If they do a bad job, they lose credibility, maybe close. That never happens to the FDA. It always gets money. Regarding workplace safety, that ought to be between the employee and the employer. Stop being a buttinsky.

“For instance, the FDA has long considered saccharin, the artificial sweetener, safe for people to consume. Yet for years, the EPA made companies treat saccharin like other dangerous chemicals. Well, if it goes in your coffee, it is not hazardous waste. The EPA wisely eliminated this rule last month.”

One foolish rule eliminated. Tens of thousands of more too go. Here is a video on political promises gone wrong.

Sure is a good thing he never lies then, isn’t it.

Welcome to democracy.
