What if Bill Gates donated $1 billion to LvMI?

What specific things would the money be spent on and how would it help promote liberty? I can envision a lot more fellowships for PhD students wanting to conduct research at the institute, but what else?

  3. Take our current book inventory and turn it into an online library, whereas you pay only for the shipping to and from the warehouse (like an inner library loan).
  4. Start a mises.org 24hour radio station
  5. Donate 10 million in scholarship money to be used for graduate and undergraduate essay submissions, conference attendance, etc.
  6. Hire all the current non-tenured Austrian professors and academics, give them plush offices and tell them to write fulltime.
  7. Start a gold/commodities investment firm
  8. Offer kickbacks to professors who assign various Austrian books for required reading.
  9. Begin an organization for importing talented—dedicated–students from other countries
  10. Give everyone in the mises.org forums, a one-time, dollar for every posting point

I would buy up chairs in all the econ departments at the most prestigious universities. Try knocking some sense into these future intellectuals, and ride the backs of the prestige that comes with the name of the school.

I do like the idea of Mises having its own radio station. TV would be better, but I don’t know how much those cost to start up. It seems like its possible to have some niche stations that must survive on some fairly meager ratings. It could air a bunch of re-runs of liberty related fiction, have some daily talk on the issues of the day or trends of the week/month, then have specials going in depth on issues and doing it really well with some really nice production and stuff, sort of like history channel stuff, only from an Austrian perspective. A questions forum, where every week you bring on three guests as part of a panel, release who the guest are going to be a week early, take question online and from the audience and see where it goes. And then you could just air old speeches and lectures during any of the dead air time

This suggestion is likely not within the spirit of the LvMI acedemic mission but with a billion dollars I would suggest something ambitions like introducing a sound currency system in the real world.

I don’t think we should try to motivaite people by paying them to study/teach AE. Conflict of interest and whatnot. But maybe if they could get ahold of a TV station…?

If Bill Gates donated a billions dollars to LvMI institute, it would probably be taken over by his insane, statist, misanthropic agenda. We would all be doomed. Better not to accept the money. Now, a billion dollars from Lew Rockwell’s winning lottery ticket is another story.
