I’m an accounting major, but I have no idea what I want to do. Everything seems pointless as the economy is going to shit and the only jobs out there for accountants are filing taxes.
Also, I can’t see how I can make due on $20-35 K after taxes, ss, and medicare. And I don’t really want to work 12 or 14 hours a day. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes the economy is going to hell but you can’t do anything about that but you can do something about yourself which is to hit the bricks and find work that pays. At this point in time a 20 to 35 K job is better than no job at all. A lot of folks in your profession are working for low wages to gain some experience.
I hate to say it, as my significant other is a realestate agent so I am speaking from a position of hearing how bad it has been, but this is not going to change soon. There is no way the current situation can keep going with the volumes of new money being created to pay down gargantuan debts being accumulated by various levels of government. Until govenrment slows and it is stubborn you can not expect a recovery.
