This whole idea of asking why the Libertarian movement is mostly white is kind of like asking a person who is white why they are white or asking someone who isn’t white why they aren’t white.
Seems like legit questions to me. It was what I was trying to get at with my last post actually.
Environmental factors do play a role in whether someone is a great athlete or intelectual. But these factors are not just superficial. Certain environmental factors have real and permanent affects.
In the example of the ethiopian having to run to school everyday will not overcome the detriment of all of the other environmental factors. Growing up in ethiopia reduces access to proper nutrition, medicine, etc. This will impair physical and intelectual development. They would also have less access to modern training techiques, facilities, etc. So if we take all of the environmental factors into account, ethiopia should produce no elite athletes. But it does. Why?
Also IQ does measure (at least in part) intelectual ability (learning, reasoning). Once again in much of subsaharan africa significant portions of the population endure scarcity in food and nutrition. Other smaller but still significant numbers have endured famine. This has real affects on the intellectual development of the population. A population that has endured this scarcity will not be as “smart” as one who has not.
Populations of people are not interchangeable. There are real differences linked to both environmental and genetic factors. This does play a part into why ideas are created and developed by some groups and not others.

Asian-American libertarian here (well, actually independent but I tend to never fully commit 100% to a philosophy until I let it marinate for a while), reformed liberal and former Obama supporter…which would probably make me unpopular since I live close to NYC haha. Race is just really obscure. There’s genetic diversity within a single race then between other races. Also, there’s so much blending between different backgrounds, it’s hard to even see race as something concrete. Just look at the middle east. The Turks, Semites, Arabs, and Iranians, etc etc all are said to come from all these different places and yet they all look very similar, many look each other. There’s just too much diversity, and yet we are all one species.
I was simply saying that racists find race relevant not that all people who find it relevant are racist. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. It’s so odd that people even differentiate or identify with different groups of people, just because some are lighter, or darker, or have different looking faces. I’m just trying to pick at the right and left here. Both the democrats and republicans discriminate.
When it comes to the OP. Who cares if there’s a lot of white austrians. Besides, there’s plenty of white people everywhere in the U.S, there’s a bunch of white guys in the republican and democratic parties too. It can never be a legitimate criticism.

I’m not really sure it is. Its not difficult to tell where most peoples ancestors are from. No doubt there are grey areas that blur the line (especially in areas like the middle east that have been a cross road between europe, asia, and africa), but as a general rule you arent going to confuse a Swede with a Nigerian.

I dont think its that simple. If you believe race is only a skin tone then it wouldnt make sense. But some see race as more than that.

Williams (of whom you probably know) was one, the other is a fellow named Tennyson McCalla who cohosts the Thinking Liberty podcast. He has some thoughts on why minorities tend not to embrace the philosophy of liberty.

Race is a made-up concept that a bunch of commie sociologists invented to explain differences between peoples that were actually the result of cultural and political disparities that they didn’t want to acknowledge. Race is about scienctifically valid as phrenology or astrology.
