As a concept used to attempt to explain non-biological differences between ethnicities, it had its origins in early sociological theories. And they may not have been Marxists, but they were certainly not “right wing”.
(P.S. “commie” is not a serious term. If I had meant “Marxist” I would have said “Marxist”.)
Except no, it doesn’t exist at all. Race is a made-up concept that a bunch of commie sociologists invented to explain differences between peoples that were actually the result of cultural and political disparities that they didn’t want to acknowledge. Race is about scienctifically valid as phrenology or astrology.
Could you define race for me? It seems that you and I must have different ideas of what exactly race is. Cultural and political disparities have nothing to do with what I understand race to be. Those children adopted by Angelina Jolie will not become white because they have grown up in a privileged white household. They are African because of the genes they carry. Not the language they speak or discrimination they have endured. Where have I heard this argument before. Wasn’t an author who wrote a book a while back that claimed Irish immigrant to the US were not really white because they were not accepted as equals of the native population and experienced discrimination as a result.
My understanding is that the basis of race is that there are physical differences in populations around the world. These physical differences are caused by the environment in which those relatively isolated populations evolved and these physical traits are passed to the next generation by heredity. Does this not factor into your understanding of race?
The word race is the layman’s catch-all for differences in life forms. Most people call human a race and at the same time call differences within human racial. Ethnicity is the same crap. I’m not a fan of urban dictionary taxonomy.
Ethnicity and heredity are, in fact, ethnicity and heredity. Race is a separate designation.
I never claimed that heredity and race were the same thing. I stated the race is determined by heredity, not by culture and politics as you stated above. If I am misunderstanding please elaborate on what you are saying. Also I am curious how you would define race. If we are not on the same page as far as what race is we will just go round in circles.
