Why is the Media Industry Dominated by the Left Wing?

What is it about the media that either turns people into liberals or attracts liberals to the industry? Does the roots of this relationship go as far back as college or even further? How does this relate to Fox News?

Ya, all those marxists over at CNN..

They’re not leftists. They are about as centrist as you can get; they are profit-biased (whatever brings in the ratings). Pretty corporate and state bias as well.
The reason FOX and ERB, etc think there’s a “liberal” bias is because they can’t concieve of themselves as on the far-right, So anything left on Limbaugh is communist.

I would argue that a Pew Research Center poll found that four times as many journalists identify themselves as liberal than conservative.

If you actually read that you will see that majorities call themselves moderate. You will also see that traditional media tends to think coverage of Iraq was a good thing (even tho its criticism was nil if it all).

Most editors/executives felt their journalists reflected their values.

And on a side note; Where was all the demand for single payer in the mainstream media? As much as you may not think so, healthcare is centrist issue, single payer is the leftist issue.

Unless of course you consider Pelosy a leftist, and if so, I feel you do not understand the spectrum. Democrats are center-leftists.

Intellectuals tend to be leftist, journalists are part of the intellectual class.

That’s kind of like an indirect ad hominem, isn’t it? Or a fallacy of identification.

Are you sure they aren’t just more likely to be liberal? Remember, most american conservatives are (classical) liberals as well.

Most people consider themselves moderate, this isn’t groundbreaking. Even the most radical of revolutionaries considered themselves to be moderate. And as if that negates the fact that the ratio of people who consider themselves to be liberal or conservative is 4/1.

That’s my point tho, since when is liberal hard-left?

American liberals are centrists. Where was the demand for single payer? Where is the coverage of worker’s movments? Why did barely no one question Bush in the run-up to the Iraq War? Why so friendly to supply side economics?

Whatever they want to identify themselves as, even were it Stalinists, their actions are certainly much more centrist than leftist.

Maybe blue dog democrats, not much more left than that.

It’s neither. It is a reference to the way Austrians have used the term. See Shumpeter and Hayek for more detail if interested.

Can the media be liberal without being hard left?

“American liberals are centrists.”

Are you freaking insane? Just go look at a chart of government spending over the 20th century, and then tell me that we’ve had centrist or conservative government. Are you just trolling?

That spending comes from the right just as fast as it comes from the left.. or need I remind you of George Bush and Ron Reagan?

It’s statist media. Some of it is labeled as “left” some as “right”, but it’s ethics are the same.

Here’s a clue: Tell me the difference between the Obama administration and the Bush administration.

^ exactly

Obama abolished DADT and ended the war in iraq.

He ended the War in Iraq? I must have been heavily sedated when that happened, because I do not recall. Please show your evidence.

No

Wow, your right! I was very wrong. Crap, why weren’t people celebrating this everywhere? Frankly, this is the first time I’ve heard of this. I mean after years of anti-war people against the war, myself being anti-war and knowing many whore are, I’m shocked this is the first time anyone has told me anything.

I… I’m joking. I mainly wanted to see how people on the mises.org forums respond to the liberal mantras.
